20.03.20 Ltr to Schools – Coronavirus

As you will see the letter contains detailed information about procedures during the school closure phase with all schools closing today. As detailed in the letter, the Highland Council decision is based on medical advice that being at home and reducing social contact is vital to reducing the spread of the Coronavirus in the Highlands.

Key messages from the letter:

  • Schools closed from 5.00pm this evening
  • Only access to the school will be on Monday March 23rd for parents needing to pick up devices to support online learning or essential medication. Should any families be unable to do this (for example because of self-isolation) please contact us so that we can find an alternative way for the item to be passed on.
  • There will be critical provision for key workers (the end of the letter gives more information about this) and vulnerable groups
  • Key workers will apply online for childcare and provision for child care for key workers’ children will not begin until after Friday March 27th. The link below is for applications.
  • Free School Meals
    • For the week beginning Monday 23rd March, a takeaway ‘Grab & Go’ option will be available for all young people who are entitled to a free school meal. This includes all P1-P3 pupils and all other pupils from P4 and above who are already entitled to this. For Milton of Leys pupils, these will be available from Millburn and can be collected between 11am and 2pm. Please note this arrangement is for this week only and may change beyond that. We will post once we have further information about this.
There is no need to reapply but for new applications please see the link

I appreciate this is a lot of information to take in. Please contact me once you have read the letter if you need any further support/guidance

Your child’s class teacher will provide support with online learning at home. If you cannot contact your child’s class teacher, either contact the school by email or myself and we will help get you in touch. Please note we will give more information about registration as noted in the letter once a system for this is established.

Thank you for your patience and consideration as we work through the different actions resulting from the very pressing needs on account of the Coronavirus.
