Success for our young engineers

P6 have been working collaboratively across the year group to create some amazing designs for the UHI young engineers’ competition. The standard was very high across the year group and today 8 of our P6 pupils took the chosen models from MOL to Eden Court for the competition.

The brief was to design an electronic car with a chassis powered by an electronic motor with a circuit. Pupils were tasked with making their models unique, with attention given amongst other factors to the materials used, weight of the vehicle and friction from the tyres. Judging was then based on vehicles being able to move forward and back in a straight line, the gradient of a slope vehicles could travel up, the aesthetics of the car and discussion with engineers about designing the vehicles and overcoming challenges.

With fantastic success the school came away with 2 of the 3 awards – the Overall Engineer Award (won by Erin and Sebastian) and Best Communicator Award (won by Jason and Lacey). Well done to everyone who took part today (Ella, Lewis D, Lewis K, Sebastian, Lacey, Ava, Erin and Jason) and to the wider P6 year group – together you have certainly learnt a great deal about product design and engineering.
