In the final league game of the series, MOL Lakers faced the Suns (Balloch) this afternoon which saw us suffer a slow start giving the suns a 14 point lead in the first quarter. Coming out after the break with a more focused style of play, MOL clawed back at the score line and brought the scores level. On the final whistle we secured the win with a 26 points swing to claim the Pacific Division Championships undefeated on 53-41.
With a game off to recover, MOL then faced the Sacramento Kings (Holm) in the Regional Playoffs Final to battle to see who would book their place in the Final Fours at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
Playing strong defence and good team work on offence the Lakers set the pace and established a strong lead heading into the second quarter. With great play by all players across the team, MOL maintained their lead as the Kings fought hard to pull back the game. With a proven track record of having coming back from 19 points down to secure the win by 1 over the Suns in their last league game, the danger of a strong 4th quarter from Holm was evident. In the last quarter, Holm then narrowed the lead to 10 and were fighting hard to push for the win but with a substitution of players MOL pushed again and extended their lead to claim the title by 20 clear points, winning 56-36.
The Sacramento Kings played with their hearts today and fought back hard, a massive well done to Holm Coach Martin and his team but MOL Lakers stood tall in depth of skill and character and remained unbeaten in our Division proving to be the strongest team.
Massive congrats to all the players – we are very proud coaches of how much you have developed and with some players only starting playing in January you have done amazingly! We are very excited about taking the team down to the Emirates to play in the Final Fours which will also see you all getting the chance to meet the Rocks Players and support them in their home game that evening!
