Changes to Childcare

As you may be aware the Scottish Government has a drive to provide accessible childcare for all families across Scotland. With this in mind Milton of Leys Primary has been selected to  move to 50 weeks of childcare provision across the year starting in July 2019. What this means is when the school year ends on July 4th the childcare department will remain open, providing care for children aged 3 – 12 throughout the Summer, October and Easter holidays, only closing for 2 weeks at Christmas.  This provision is open to families across the area and children do not have to attend school at Milton of Leys Primary to qualify for childcare in the holidays.

Opening Hours

Childcare will be available from 08:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday throughout the holidays. The same rules apply, so we must have 48 hours notice to book or cancel a space. Payment is by Direct Debit or Childcare Voucher only so a payment plan must be established prior to attendance.  We would urge all families to look up the new Childcare Choices website where HMRC provide information around tax relief on childcare charges for families who earn less than £100,000 collectively.  If you have any questions around this matter please contact the Childcare Manager.

Nursery Funding

We will also see changes to the allocation of government funded hours for academic year 2019/2020 with 2 different models for parent to choose from. The standard model of 16 hours over the 38 week school year will still apply. Families have 16 free hours each week the school is open and can choose to pay to top up if required. Alternatively families who wish can have access to 12 funded hours per week over the 50 weeks of childcare provision, again choosing to pay to top up as required. The allocation of funded hours for session 2019/2020 commences at the beginning of August. Families will have to choose the model best suited to their needs at the time of enrolment. For further details or to discuss your families requirements please contact the Childcare Manager directly, through the school office.

Nursery Enrolment

This year enrolment for nursery is during week commencing 25th February. We would encourage all families to access the enrolment package via The Highland Council website and submit to the school in this way. Children returning for their second year with us do not need to re-enrol. Once issued please submit your preference of hours form to the main school office as soon as possible after this date to allow us to begin planning for session 2019/2020.

We look forward to this exciting new provision and hope we can work together to meet your childcare needs.
