Starting the season’s training with just 3 players, the MOL girls basketball team, with sponsorship from Milton of Leys Pharmacy, has gone from strength to strength not just in numbers but in performances on court!
Founding members, Girls Captain Lois, Lucy and Eilidh worked had in recruiting players to the team and now with 11 players the team has flourished. With most players having had only 3 lunch time training sessions in the run up into the first schools league, they lost both their games. Showing determination and commitment to improve their performances the girls have worked hard to develop their individual ball handling and dribbling skills and over the next two league days they did not lose another league game! With good communication on court and quickly picking up game play skills the girls have come through the ranks to finish THIRD in the league!
Coach Tracy said, “With the majority of girls not having played basketball before we started, developing the very basics in ball handling and passing skills, learning footwork patterns and building individual confidences on the ball. The progress they have made has been terrific which is clear to see in their style of play on court on Monday. More importantly, what shone through was their team spirit. From those tentative steps on court at the first league day the girls have become a united force on court. I am so very proud of each of them individual and as a team.”
As the team has grown, over the season, Captain Lois and Vice-Captain Evie have lead the first ever MOL girls basketball team with pride, players Eilidh, Olivia, Lucy, Isla, Zoe, Holly, Brooke, Ava and Ruth have all demonstrated excellent improvement in their individual techniques and skills and have come together over the season to prove to be a strong force in basketball in the Highlands.
They next play on Monday 13 Feb at Millburn Academy at 4 pm – come along and support the team.
