PAYMENT FOR SCHOOL MEALS

The following will be going home in letter form, on behalf of Highland Council Catering Team:

We would like to remind you that school meals must be paid for in advance, preferably on a Monday for that week. You can pay in a variety of ways – as follows:

1.       Pay online at www.highland.gov.uk

You will need your child’s SCN number in order to carry this out – if this has not yet been issued to you, you should receive it within the next few weeks.

2.       Pay by cheque or cash

It is still possible to pay by cash or cheque – cheques must be made payable to ‘The Highland Council’, and the pupil’s name and class written on the reverse.

3.       Free Meals

If you think you might be entitled to free school meals, details of entitling benefits and application forms, can be found on the Highland Council website www.highland.gov.uk/learninghere/schools/schoolmeals

4.       Forgotten Payment

Please note that – except where a pupil is entitled to free school meals – meals must be paid for in advance. Any non-payment of meals is recorded, will be vigourously chased up, and will initiate the debt recovery procedure through Highland Council ECS and Finance Services.

If you have lost the details of your child’s SCN, or if you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Catering Team on 01463 663340 or by email ecscatering@highland.gov.uk.

  1. Whilst we all appreciate that school meals should be paid for in advance the current system does not allow for this as we have no way of monitoring how much our children are spending at break time and even need to actively chase up a balance of the account. We need statements to see how our money is being spent 🙂

    • Thanks for the comment. I will pass this onto the council’s catering department as I’m sure your view is not the only one, on this matter.
